FAQ

Questions we actually get asked

No fluff, no legalese. Here's exactly how this works so there are zero surprises.

Finding the Best Web Designer
You found them. Central Coast Web Design is based in Guadalupe and has built websites for Santa Maria businesses across restaurants, contractors, medical offices, and retail. $0 down, live in 1–2 weeks, and when you call or text, Alan answers directly — not a call center.
Central Coast Web Design serves Santa Barbara businesses with the same speed and quality as our local clients. All work is handled by Alan Cuenca directly — nothing is outsourced. We build custom-coded sites starting at $175/month with $0 down. Schedule a free consultation and we'll talk through your project personally.
Central Coast Web Design serves the SLO area including Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande, and Nipomo. We build fast, custom-coded sites starting at $175/month — no templates, no page builders, no middlemen. You work directly with the developer from start to finish.
Look at their portfolio on mobile (not just desktop), ask how edits work after launch, ask who your actual point of contact will be, and ask about hosting. Avoid anyone building on WordPress, Wix, or page-builder templates — these create ongoing security and performance problems. Custom hand-coded sites rank better, load faster, and hold up longer.
SEO & Local Rankings
Yes — we offer local SEO for SLO-area businesses including on-page optimization, Google Business Profile setup, structured data (schema markup), and fast-loading Astro sites that rank well by design. Local searches like "web design SLO" or "contractor SLO" are exactly what our approach targets.
Yes. We serve Santa Barbara businesses with local SEO including technical on-page optimization, schema markup, local citations, and Google Business Profile setup. Santa Barbara is a competitive market — a fast, properly-structured website makes a measurable difference in where you show up.
Every site we build includes: structured data (FAQ, LocalBusiness, and service schemas), fast Core Web Vitals scores, Google Search Console setup, proper canonical URLs, optimized meta titles and descriptions, and local keyword targeting for your city. SEO isn't a separate add-on — it's built into every project from day one.
For local searches ("web designer Santa Maria," "plumber Lompoc"), most clients start seeing movement in Google within 2–4 months. Technical improvements like site speed and schema can show results faster. The biggest long-term driver is content quality, consistent reviews, and a Google Business Profile that's kept current.
Industry & Business Types
Yes — menus, online ordering links, reservation integrations, hours that stay current, and bilingual pages for Spanish-speaking customers. We've built sites for food businesses across Santa Maria and the Central Coast. Fast load times and clear mobile layouts are standard on every food business site.
Yes. Contractor and trades websites need to rank for local searches like "plumber Santa Maria" or "HVAC Orcutt." We build lead-generating sites with service area pages, photo galleries, quote request forms, and local SEO baked in — so customers find you before they find someone else.
Yes — booking integrations (StyleSeat, Square, GlossGenius), staff profiles, service menus, and photo galleries. We make it easy for clients to book online directly from your site without calling, and your Google listing stays current with your real hours and services.
Yes. Service businesses are our specialty. We build sites with clear service areas, photo galleries of your work, quote forms, and the local SEO structure to rank for searches like "landscaping Santa Maria" or "house cleaning Lompoc." Most service business sites we build start generating leads within the first month.
Billing & Payment
Monthly subscriptions are auto-charged to your card on file through Stripe on the same date every month — fully automatic, no invoice to chase down. Lump sum projects are paid via ACH bank transfer to keep processing fees minimal or via checks, PayPal, and Venmo.
Yes. Your site runs on Netlify with SSL, a global CDN, and automatic deployments from GitHub. There's no separate hosting bill, ever.
Since billing is automated via Stripe, a failed payment usually means an expired card — I'll reach out and it's easy to sort out. If a payment fails and I can't reach you after multiple attempts, the subscription may be paused until it's resolved. I'm always flexible when someone communicates with me. The only time things get difficult is when there's no response at all.
Once we've moved into active development, refunds are not available as that time and work can't be recovered. I take on every project intending to deliver something you're proud of, and I won't move forward until you've signed off on the design direction.
Cancellation & Ownership
I'm upfront about this because I'd rather you know before you sign than be surprised later. If you cancel before 12 months, you owe the remainder of what the site would have cost at the lump sum price ($3,800), minus whatever you've already paid.
Example: Cancel at month 4 after paying $700 → you owe $3,100. Cancel at month 10 after paying $1,750 → you owe $2,050.
Life happens and I'm always willing to have a conversation — but the contract exists so neither of us gets taken advantage of.
You keep your domain and any assets you provided (photos, logos, copy). The website code stays with me — think of it like a lease. The service continues as long as the subscription does. If you want to own the code outright, the one-time build at $3,800 is the right path.
There's no buyout option on the monthly plan. The subscription pricing only works financially if it's ongoing. If ownership matters to you from the start, the one-time build is designed exactly for that.
Pages & Edits
Edits are changes to what's already on your site: updating your hours, swapping a photo, changing your phone number, updating a menu, adding a team member, fixing a typo, tweaking a headline. Just email me and I'll handle it — usually within 48 business hours. Edits are not redesigns, new features, or new pages (those are separate). Think of it as: if your business changes, your website keeps up. No extra charge, ever.
No problem — additional pages are a $100 one-time fee each. Your $175/month never goes up. So a 7-page site is $175/month plus a one-time $300 at launch. That's it. No monthly upcharge, no recurring fee per page. Ever.
Just send me an email. No portal, no ticket system, no scheduling a call. You tell me what you need, I handle it and let you know when it's done. I'm a one-person shop — when you email me, it goes directly to me, not a queue in another country.
The Build
Most sites launch within 1–2 weeks from the time I have everything I need from you — your logo, photos, the copy for each page, and any specific design preferences. The biggest factor in timeline is usually how quickly content comes back from the client. The faster you send me what I need, the faster you're live.
Never. Every site I build is custom hand-coded using Astro and React — no templates, no drag-and-drop builders, no WordPress. This means your site loads faster, has no plugin vulnerabilities to patch, and looks like your business instead of a template with your name on it. There's nothing to get hacked because there's no database, no CMS login, nothing for bots to target.
Always. Your domain is yours — I will never hold it hostage. If I registered it on your behalf, I transfer it to you the moment you ask, no matter the circumstances. The same goes for any content, photos, or copy you provided. What's yours stays yours.
Every client site is backed up to a private GitHub repository — your code is never trapped on a single machine. Your site is hosted on Netlify's global infrastructure, which runs independently of me. In a worst-case scenario, you'd have full access to your domain and your site would continue running. I also maintain documentation for every project so any competent developer could pick up where I left off.
Ecommerce & Shopify
No — ecommerce is a fundamentally different project. Setting up a store with products, variants, checkout, shipping, taxes, and payment processing is significantly more work than a business website. Shopify builds are priced separately starting at $2,500.
Horizon ($2,500+) uses Shopify's Horizon theme, customized to your brand. Best for new stores or smaller catalogs — fastest turnaround, fully manageable by you after launch.

Custom Liquid ($5,000+) is a fully bespoke theme built from scratch. No theme constraints, exactly what your brand needs.

Headless ($10,000+) is a Next.js or Astro frontend powered by Shopify's commerce backend. The fastest possible storefront, with complete design freedom. Most Shopify developers can't build this — it's a genuine technical differentiator.
Website vs. Social Media
Yes — and this is one of the most important reasons to invest in your own site. Facebook controls your reach. They can change the algorithm, restrict your posts, or shut your account down without warning. Your website is the only online presence you fully own. It also shows up in Google Search, which is where most customers start when they're looking for a local service — not Facebook.
Yes. Instagram is a great tool for discovery and building an audience, but it has real limits: links in posts don't work, you can't take bookings or quote requests through a post, and you're at the mercy of the algorithm every time you share something. A website captures customers who find you on Google, lets them book or contact you directly, and works for you 24/7 — whether or not Instagram decides to show your content that day.
You can, but you get what you pay for. Free and cheap website builders produce slow, template-looking sites that are hard to rank on Google, difficult to customize, and held hostage by the platform (try exporting your Wix site — you can't). Every site I build is hand-coded and custom, loads significantly faster, and is hosted on infrastructure that runs independently of any one company.
Local & Bilingual

Yes — I'm fully bilingual and can build your site in Spanish, English, or both. If your business serves customers in both languages, a bilingual site is something I can build into the project from day one.
Yes — I'm based in Guadalupe and serve businesses throughout Santa Maria, Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, and the broader Central Coast. I'm a member of the Guadalupe Business Association. When you work with me, you're working with someone who actually knows this community — not an agency routing your project through a team overseas.
